Boffins build a better pixel capable of emitting and receiving light
Researchers at ETH Zurich have developed a multifunction pixel that can both emit and measure light, which could lead to advancements in display screens and camera sensors. The team, led by Professor David Norris, used a technique involving light wave interference patterns to create Fourier pixels that can control and analyze amplitude, phase, and polarization of optical fields. This innovation has the potential to enable two-way screens, holographic displays, and optical communication systems.
