Building Sakhi: Hindi Voice-to-Form for India's ASHA Workers, Solo in Six Weeks
A new Hindi voice-to-form pipeline called Sakhi has been developed for India's ASHA workers in just six weeks. The system aims to improve the documentation of maternal and child health visits by enabling ASHAs to capture data more efficiently. It features two deployment modes: one for workstations and another for offline use on Android devices.
- ▪Sakhi is designed for India's approximately 1 million Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) who conduct over 50 million home visits annually.
- ▪The system addresses challenges with unreliable cloud speech-to-text services in rural Hindi and intermittent connectivity.
- ▪Sakhi includes a workstation mode for health centers and an on-device mode for field use, allowing ASHAs to document visits without needing a network.
