EU regulator approves pill form of Novo Nordisk's Wegovy weight loss drug
Novo Nordisk has received approval for the oral version of its Wegovy weight loss drug in the European Union. This follows the U.S. approval of the pill form in December, which has seen a surge in prescriptions. The Wegovy pill will be available only to adults, while the injectable version can be prescribed to patients aged 12 and older.
- ▪The European Medicines Agency has recommended an extension to the marketing authorization for Wegovy to include an oral formulation.
- ▪Novo Nordisk expects to start selling the pill in other markets in the second quarter of this year.
- ▪Pricing for the Wegovy pill will be determined by EU member states.
