We spell out the argument that AI progress presents an existential risk to humanity in the near future, and argue that the future of mathematics should be placed in a broader discussion about the survival of humanity as a whole. The optimistic ones reassure us that mathematics will come out of this stronger than ever, but we must adapt rapidly.
