Experts warn ChatGPT's Workspace Agent Builder can be hijacked to create malicious AI workers
Security researchers at Zenity Labs identified a vulnerability in OpenAI's ChatGPT Agent Builder, dubbed “AgentForger,” that allows malicious actors to create rogue AI agents via crafted links. The flaw could enable a single phishing click to deploy agents that exfiltrate data or persist within an organization’s infrastructure without user prompts. OpenAI responded by removing the risky URL parameter and has not detected any abuse of the issue.
- ▪Zenity Labs discovered the AgentForger flaw in the ChatGPT Agent Builder, which permits arbitrary instructions through a permissive URL parameter.
- ▪A malicious link can trigger the creation of a rogue AI agent that operates without prompting the user, potentially exfiltrating sensitive data.
- ▪The vulnerability could allow persistent malicious agents to remain in a victim’s tech stack until detected.
- ▪OpenAI patched the issue by eliminating the vulnerable parameter, and no exploitation has been reported to date.
