Lying at the foothills of the Mao mountains in southern China, the Temple of King Ashoka is one of the main attractions in Ningbo, a port city in southern Zhejiang Province, around 200 km south of Shanghai. Hymns fill the courtyards of the massive temple complex, which is largely empty on a busy weekday.The temple’s history goes back more than 1,700 years, when it was built during the Western Jin Dynasty.
