Meta wants to get inside your terminal with its new coding agent
Meta has introduced Muse Code, a terminal-based coding agent built on the Muse Spark 1.2 large language model. The tool functions as an agent orchestrator, allowing multiple background agents to work in parallel on code tasks while logging actions and preserving the original working copy. Meta currently hosts Muse Spark as a proprietary, closed-weight model but has hinted at possible future openness.
- ▪Muse Code is positioned as a competitor to OpenAI Codex and Anthropic Claude Code, offering planning, code generation, and validation capabilities.
- ▪The system runs background agents that maintain a context file and can operate in isolated work trees without modifying the developer's working copy.
- ▪In internal tests, Muse Code simultaneously built six game features without collisions and performed over 1,000 tool calls during a kernel optimization task.
- ▪Muse Spark 1.2, the underlying model, is a multimodal LLM that supports long-running tasks and is hosted on Nvidia Hopper GPUs.
- ▪Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg indicated that the company may eventually open source Muse Spark, though it is currently a closed-weight service.
