A woman died in South Carolina over the weekend after high winds loosened a restaurant umbrella that struck her near the head. The victim, identified by the Clarendon County Coroner’s Office as Dana Weinger, 56, according to Columbia’s WLTX, was eating Saturday outside at Driftwood Grill in Summerton in the central part of the state. The umbrella, kicked up by the wind, struck Ms. Weinger in the area near her head and cut one of the carotid arteries in her neck, Clarendon County Sheriff Tim Baxley said, according to WIS, another Columbia station. Clarendon County Coroner Jacqueline Blackwell said emergency medical personnel tried to save the unresponsive Ms. Weinger and that she was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene, reported WLTX.
